Installing Webonizer

Installing Webonizer

Webonizer has an installation script that will, for the most part, walk you through each step--however there are a few things you will have to do to complete the installation. The yellow box below contains server requirements to install and use Webonizer. The Installation Prerequisites detail actions you will need to do to install Webonizer.

System Requirements

In order to install Webonizer, your server must have the following features installed.

  • PHP 5 with Safe Mode turned OFF
  • MySQL 4.1 or later
  • PHP GD Libraries with TTF enabled*
  • PHP Zip Libraries
  • OpenSSL
  • IonCube Loader
  • Curl (with OpenSSL support)
  • Apache mod_rewrite

If your server does not have the above components installed, you will not be able to install Webonizer on your domain. You must ask your server administrator to install these components or move your domain to a server that will support these requirements. If you need hosting on a server that will support Webonizer, contact the Webonizer Hosting Department at 1-216-832-2024 or the Webonizer Administrative Office at 1-614-276-0311.

*Notes

  • You will be able to install Webonizer even if your GD library (a collection of PHP functions) does not have TTF enabled, but certain key features will not work properly, including email, guestbooks and loginas these features sometimes require verification of security text generated using GD with TTF. You should verify that your server has TTF enabled for GD.
  • The installation will overwrite your domain's root HTACCESS file. If you already have an HTACCESS file, you must set its permission to allow Group Write access. Upon installation of Webonizer, your your HTACCESS file will be completely overwritten. You may want to back up that file before installing Webonizer if you are using any other web applications that use HTACCESS.

Installation Prerequisites

On top of the required server components, you will need to do the following actions before installing Webonizer:

  1. Create a MySQL database for Webonizer
  2. Create a MySQL User for your database
  3. Make your domains root folder group writable

Your web domain control panel or webmaster should have the tools to create your database and database user. Please refer to your domain control panel or server documentation for information on creating these.

Loading Installation Files

Once the above requirements and prerequisites are met, you should load the installation files to your site. Our installer program will load these installation files.

When you run the installation program, you will be prompted to enter your server's FTP login information. This information will have come from your web host and includes the domain name, the FTP username, the FTP password and the root directory of your web site. (The root directory is where you load web page files to and is usually a folder named "httpdocs" or "public_html".)

After the installation program has loaded the install scripts to your server, you will go to a page on your site that is similar to the content on this page. You may review the information again.

When you are ready to install, click the link at the bottom that says Click Here to Install Webonizer. If all the requirements are met, a form should appear with fields explained below:

Site Name
Enter the name of your site as it should appear at the top of every page. (This name will appear in outgoing emails, as the Alt Text of your site logo and in other places identifying the name of your site.) For example, if your company is Acme Automotive and your domain is www.acmeautomotive.com you might enter Acme Automotive or Acme Automotive Online, etc.
Default Email Address
Enter the main email address for your site. This is the email address from which most emails the site generates will come from. IMPORTANT! You should enter an email address that actually exists. This is the main email address that will receive site notifications and reports. Upon installation, this email address will receive an email that includes your login information and some other helpful tips.
Database Name
Enter the name of the database that MySQL will use. You should use a brand new database that is not shared by third-party applicationsas those applications may delete information vital to your Webonizer system. If you have not created a MySQL database, you should do so now with your sites administrative control panel.
Database User
Enter the name of the MySQL user that has permission set to ALL for the database listed above.
User Password
Enter the MySQL User password for the user listed above. The password must be alphanumeric.
Login Username
Create a username for logging into your site. This must be alphanumeric and no longer than 16 characters.
Login Password
Create a password for your login account. This must be alphanumeric and no longer than 16 characters.

After entering the information above, the installation script will download the current files from Webonizer.com. If there are no error messages, you will be directed to a page that will give you an overview of using your site. If there are errors, take note of the problems that Webonizer spits out. At this point, the most likely error is that Webonizer could not copy the installation files from Webonizer.com because the root directory for your domain does not have Write access granted to Group. If you are installing Webonizer onto a shared host, please read about Security Risks of Shared Hosting.
